Mini Bath Rituals – Part 3

October 29, 2011 | By More

Now that you’ve setup your bathroom and got your bath supplies ready it’s time for the actual bath ritual. It’s really up to you what you do in your own ritual, but there are few tips I think really make the experience sing:

Bath Ritual SpaceBath Ritual Basics

  • Try and set aside a regular time and day for your ritual. It doesn’t have to be every week – once a month still works just as well. The most important point about a bath ritual is that you take time out just for yourself on a regular basis.
  • Tell those around you that you are committed to this ritual. It’s important to involve family members because they need to know that you are not to be disturbed during your “me” time.
  • Set aside the time – this runs on from the point above. Only you can commit to taking the time out for a regular bath ritual. Clear your diary for that time and mark it in there. That way you’ll know not to accept invitations to dinner etc. Once you do this it will much easier to relax and enjoy the ritual.

Bath Ritual Steps:

Now that we’ve got that covered here are the basic steps to any good bath ritual:

1)    Prepare your bath. All bath rituals begin with the running of the bath. Decide what bubble bath, bath bombs or soaps you are going to use. Light your candles, your essential oils and arrange your towels. Pour your drink and put some music on if you are going to use music. Bath Rituals

2)    Enjoy the ritual. Sometimes it’s easy to forget this part! Try and invoke a sense of play when you get into the bath. Luxuriate in the bath – involve all of your senses. Let your mind go free.

3)    If you enforce a “nothing past this door” policy you’ll find it easier to unwind. Try and get into the habit of leaving your worries, anxiety and thoughts about work etc at the bathroom door.

4)    Let the ritual evolve. Any great ritual takes time to perfect. You might find that there are some oils you didn’t like or some soaps that weren’t the best. That’s ok. Just keep taking all the good bits into the next ritual. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Take some tips from other cultures. Korean bathhouses for example require you to shower first before you get into the bath.

If you employ these simple steps your next bath ritual is sure to be sublime. Feel free to let me know any of your own bath ritual ideas.
