Meditation For Beginners – Part 1
Meditation is becoming increasingly important in our overloaded society. These days we are so bombarded with stimuli that it’s almost impossible to have real “spare” time. Remember when you were a child and you got bored? When was the last time as an adult you faced boredom? Frightening isn’t it! Even today’s children have so much electronic (video games, ipods, computers etc) equipment that they are never alone in their own heads.
Meditation is a way to create a “time-out” from our environment and to go deep within ourselves to another realm. There are so many different practices of mediation out there that it can be a bit confusing for first timers. That’s why I’ve decided to post what I like to call:
The World’s Easiest Meditation Guide
Years ago I used to give this guide to my stressed out life coaching clients and they really appreciated it, so I thought you might too. But before I get into that you might want to know some reasons why meditation is so beneficial.
Why Meditate?
People who have never meditated before often don’t understand what all the fuss is about. They wonder why they should put the effort into doing something that is basically just wasting time. Indeed when you first start meditating it’s natural to feel this way. After years of meditating myself and speaking with other like minded individuals I have found that meditation falls into 3 main benefits:
1) It’s one of the most efficient ways to relieve yourself of stress and worry. One of the first things you’ll notice when you start meditating is how quickly your body relaxes. This cannot be underestimated. Sometimes life throws us some bad days. But when you’ve got a tool like meditation in your arsenal it makes it much easier to cope.
2) You quickly become much more self-aware. We might not know it, but our subconscious is working 24 hrs a day. When we learn to meditate we have a much more direct line to our subconscious. When we meditate we are able to recall recent dreams, access and release hidden fears, and generally have a good detached look at our current mindset. You might be thinking: so what? Well the power in this is that once we become aware, we can also change anything we don’t like. Think of it like this: meditation is the state in which we can “happily” empty out any unwanted clutter in our minds.
3) You can have some amazing experiences with Spirit. This is the big one. It is the grand prize if you like of meditating. Once you’ve had it happen once, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s one of those things that is impossible to describe. Firstly it’s unique to everyone. Secondly it’s different every time. And thirdly the minute you think about it, it’s gone! All I can say is that it’s pretty life altering. So much so that I think everyone should be meditating just for this.
So there you have it: 3 compelling reasons to make the effort to meditate. To start you off, I’ve made a video on Meditation For Beginners -3 Meditation Tips for Beginners. But the real meat will be in Part 3 – The World’s Easiest Mediation Guide
